Digital Net Tonight

Tonight is the Tuesday night digital net. I’ll have a brief discussion about Raspberry Pi, an inexpensive mini computer (fits in the palm of your hand) and its uses with digital communications. I will also attempt to use it for FLDigi communications in the net. Come join in and be part of the experimentation and learning we can do together!

Hope to hear you on 146.895 at 7:30pm tonight.

PCARS Dues for 2014

Time is running out – PCARS dues are due by January 31st.!  (Per the attached, check the By-Laws, item 3, for dues information)  If you have already paid your PCARS renewal dues – Thank You.  If you have not, please get them into Amy – KD8SKL as soon as possible.  You can mail them to:

Amy Leggiero – KD8SKL
115 Steels Corners Rd W
Cuyahoga Falls, OH  44223
Or, you can take advantage of the new PAYPAL option, which is located on the PCARS website, www.portcars.org , under the "club info" tab.

I would like to update our information and club statistics to the ARRL in early February.  Since I can only show paid members in our membership count I'm hoping that you will take care of that as soon as possible.  If you have extenuating  circumstances, please contact me directly.

Thanks, and 73,

FYAO

I was asked how many ops have committed to coming and setting up a station at this year's Freeze Your Acorns Off.
Here is what I have so far:
Hot Food:  KC8UNR; KD8SKL; WB8LCD; KD8VT; W8PT
Cold Food: KC8UNR
Ops:  KC8UNR with KD8SKL and one other.

If I missed someone, it's either because you told me and I have forgotten, or you meant to email me and you forgot.

Come on folks, let's have more ops to give KC8UNR some competition.  How about you digital guys??

Tomorrows Workshop

Make sure you have your calendars marked for the trifecta of Big Fun that PCARS will be providing at a workshop starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25th, at the club site.  The activities will include:

  • Brian, N8ZPS, coordinating the build of two meter antennas constructed out of coax cable.  Estimated cost: six bucks.
  • Parky, KB8UUZ, will be demonstrating the installation of PL-259 connectors onto coax and both cables and connectors will be available.
  • Tom, WB8LCD, will be handling the demo of PowerPole connectors and you will have the chance to build your own jumper cables.  Wire and connectors will be available.

We hope to see you there.  Stop by even if you just want to observe and visit.  It will be an enjoyable and productive time.

    73, Jim, KC8PD

PCARS Field Day 2014

Here's some news I didn't get to announce at our January meeting:
James Andrews – KD8VT – will be our Field Day Chairman for 2014.  He is planning the first FD organizational meeting for Tuesday, February 4th at the club site at 7:00PM.  The first meeting is specifically for anyone wanting to serve as:

Assistant FD Chairman
Logistics Officer / Field Day Chef
Safety Officer
Public Information Officer, or,
Station Captain.
I know that everyone will pitch in and make this another successful PCARS Field Day!

73,
Tom wb8lcd
