IOTA Activations

Here is some late breaking news regarding IOTA activations:

FR/DJ7RJ & FR/DJ2CW Reunion Island AF-016

Willi, DJ7RJ will be active from Reunion Island, IOTA AF-016, September 30 to October 29, 2014 with callsign FR/DJ7RJ.  Sven DJ2CW will be active from Reunion Island, IOTA AF-016, September 30 to October 9, 2014 with callsign FR/DJ2CW.  FR/DJ7RJ QSL via home call, bureau or direct. FR/DJ2CW via home call only bureau.

PJ6/G4IUF Saba Island NA-145

Mike G4IUF will be active from Saba Island, IOTA NA-145, 29 September to 2 November 2014 as PJ6/G4IUF.  QSL via home call.

5H1MD Zanzibar AF-032

Andrea, IZ1MHY, will be active from Zanzibar, IOTA AF-032, as 5H1MD.

T30D Tarawa Atoll (Western Kiribati) OC-017

German DXpedition will be active from Tarawa Atoll, Western Kiribati (IOTA OC-017), 2-15 October 2014 as T30D

They will be active on 160-6m CW, SSB and RTTY.

TX5Z Raivavae Island OC-114

A small, suitcase DXpedition is planned to Austral Islands ( Raivavae Island , IOTA OC-114, ITU 63, CQ 32 ) on October 3rd through October 13th 2014.

Our station consists of an Elecraft K3/KPA500,  and a SteppIR CrankIR vertical on the beach.


​  ​

The team consists of Rob/N7QT and Melanie/AB1UH. The team will operate CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK on bands 80-10m, with a focus on 40/80m.


​  ​

Logs will be uploaded during the operation to Clublog , and to LoTW immediately after the DXpedition ends.


  • QSL direct to N7QT
  • IRCs are acceptable
  • ARRL Bureau cards acceptable
  • Direct: stateside – SASE , or international – SASE + ($2 USD or IRC) for postage

Club site antenna repairs.

Greetings PCARS members!

As of today the beam at the club site is fully functional.  This completes the repairs to our HF antennas.  Thanks to Tom Sly WB8LCD, Ed Polack K8IV, Mike DiCarro KD8FLZ, and Nicholas Wagner AC8QG for giving up a significant portion of a Saturday to help get this done in time for the California QSO Party next weekend.  Hopefully I'll have a chance to stop in for some BIG FUN next weekend.  See you there!

Net Night at the Club Site

Tonight is Net Night! 
At the very least, check into the PCARS net at 8:00PM on 146.895 Mhz, 110.9PL.  Every check-in to the net will be entered into a drawing for 10  50/50 tickets at the next club meeting!  (Call must be correctly listed on the net roster received from tonight's NCS.)
At the very most, stop out at the club site.  You can check into the net from there and enjoy the company of your PCARS friends.  Snacks and beverages will be available.
See you there,  doors will open at 6:30PM till we leave.

Live Webcast for the K6H Special Event this weekend !

It's time for the K6H Special Events Webcast from the TV set of “Last Man Standing” in Hollywood


Please join us during our very special webcast of the Special Events Station K6H Sept 27th and 28th.  Hosts for the event will be Amateur Radio crew members of the ABC television series “Last Man Standing”.  On the show, actor Tim Allen plays Mike Baxter, KA0XTT.  The show’s producer is our friend, John Amodeo, NN6JA


To join the webcast go to where the fun begins!  During the special event W5KUB.COM will interview many special guests, give tours of the famous Stage 9 Hollywood set, and also show the California Papa Systems group operating the station. This is will be one or our best webcasts as it is packed with activity and possibly some surprises!  During the live webcast, viewers can meet and chat with us at the event or chat with other ham radio operators from around the world.

I want to remind you that we will be meeting at our club site at 7PM this Tuesday for the DX/Contest SIG.  We will review the outcome of our foray into the NA SSB Sprint as well as having a short review on the up coming CA QSO Party. Hope to see many of you there.
