September Board Meeting Moved to Tuesday September 3rd at 6:30 PM

As happens every year the September board meeting falls on Labor Day. I have decided to move it to Tuesday September 3rd and start at 6:30 instead of 7:00. This will allow the Digital SIG to meet after our meeting.
Although this meeting is basically for the board, any club member can attend. That is the reason for the general QST.
Hope all of you enjoy the holiday. Maybe you will get in a few contacts.

PCARS Event News Net Night, Ohio BBQSO Party, Club Antenna Issue

  1. Tonight August 22nd is Net Night at the Club. Stop by and have a little fun with your fellow hams. Fun will start at 6:30 and will run till 10:30. Kick into the fund and we will have pizza.
  2. This Saturday August 24 is our annual OhioBBQSO party. This is open to all club members and their families. If you want to operate, please plan to be at the club about 11 AM so you can review the rules and procedures for the contest with Chuck. Mike and Gene will start cooking about 3 PM. We will be having burgers and brats. Please bring a side dish to share if you can.
  3. During the storms of last week, we lost our 40 meter dipole. This is a very important piece of gear. The club will be replacing this antenna as soon as possible. Building the antenna is one issue. We will need a team to get it installed. The work is basically keeping the 80 and NVIS 40 from getting tangled up the trees, guy wires and other objects around the building as we drop the ring supporting these antennas from the tower. Obviously this also applies to raising the ring. Watch for a QST about this work. WE WILL NEED ABOUT 6 TO FINISH THIS PROJECT.
  4. Last, Remember the end of the month is coming. Parky will be asking for your articles and pictures. I am trying to get mine done a little to make it easier for our award winning editor to get his job done. So get your stuff to Parky sooner rather than later.
Looking forward to seeing you at these great events.
Jim, AC8NT

Ohio BBQSO Party Saturday August 24th

Attention PCARS Contesters:
On August 24, PCARS Black Squirrel Contest Group will be putting K8BF on the air in the Ohio QSO Party. The contest begins at Noon and runs until Midnight. We will be running as Multi-Multi in this 12 hr contest.
Our plan is to put all four operating positions on the air with a mix of SSB and CW. So we certainly need those members that have CW expertise to show up as well as all you phone ops. This is the one of the few contests where we being in Ohio, will be sought out, not only by other Ohio stations, but also by those working the contest from other states and countries.
In case you are wondering about the Black Squirrel Contest Group, it’s made up of those ops who have been regularly coming and operating in our contest efforts. So if you have been doing that, then you are a member of the team. But that does not mean that those who would be coming for the first time, would be excluded from operating. NO WAY! We need as many ops as we can get to fill the seats for all 12 hours. So come on out and become a PCARS BSCG member by helping to put K8BF on the air again.
I’d like the contesters to show up at least by 11AM so we can review the rules one more time. And if you are going to operate, let me know so that I can get an idea of how many ops will attend.
By the way, there will be some kind of food operation going on. Oh ya, the OHQP BBQ! Just another reason to come out to the club site and hobnob with your fellow PCARS members.
All this BIG FUN and it’s FREE!!
