Subpedition Thursday October 24 around 1400Z

Attention PCARS Members:
A group of Hams will be putting the submarine, USS Requin, on the air this Thursday. Here’s the info if you are interested in working them on CW.
John K3WWP and Mike KC2EGL (and ?) will be doing another subpedition on the USS Requin on Thursday October 24 starting around 1400Z and going for 3 or 4 hours depending on conditions.
We can only operate one band at a time on the Requin since it has only a
single vertical antenna, and which band will depend on conditions at the
time. Look for us using the sub’s call NY3EC around 7040.5 and 14060.5.
Let’s hope conditions are good and we can make a lot of contacts.
If you do work us and want a QSL card, QSL to the NY3EC address in QRZ.
Any questions? Ask.

Jamboree on the Air Scout Event at Club Site Saturday Oct. 19th 1-4PM

The club site will be open from 1 to 4 PM this Saturday October 19th to support the JOTA scouts get on the air event. If you know any scouts of any age that want to get on the air, pass the word and tell them to come to the club. They do not need a license to take part in this great event.

We will also have fox hunting equipment available if they want to give it a try.

Antenna SIG October 15th @ 7 PM

The September Antenna SIG will meet at 7:00 pm in the PCARS club site radio room, tonight, Tuesday 10/15/2019 .  All PCARS members and guests are welcome to attend the Antenna SIG.  We will be discussing all antenna related topics including selection, design, construction, trouble shooting and safety for all Amateur Radio bands.
In addition to our general discussion, tonight I want to get input on special topics that we may want to cover in 2020. These can be new antennas that the group is interested in or digging deeper into any of the topics relating to antenna design, construction or operation. And, instead of simply discussing a particular topic, I would propose that we turn our discussions into simplified technical papers that document the “How To” for building specific antennas and components. These will go into a PCARS Antenna Manual that will be available to PCARS Members.

Gilmour Radio Club Net 12:10 – 12:30 PM Tuesdays

The Gilmore Radio Club of the Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills is holding a net on the K8IV 444.575 (no tone) repeater each Tuesday from 12:10 till 12:30 PM. Ken KG8DN the faculty advisor is using the net to help grow interest in amateur radio in the student community. Net control is Rick KD8WCK.
If you have a chance please try to make this net and give the students some contacts. This is another opportunity to get students interested in our great hobby.

Arizona QSO Party this Saturday and Sunday October 12-13 at Club Site

Attention PCARS Contesters:
We just got done participating in the California QSO Party and it’s time to crank up the rigs again and get to wobbling the eithers one more time for another QSO Party.
The Arizona QSO Party takes place this weekend (Oct. 12-13). It starts on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Noon and runs until 2AM (all local time). Then we get to go home to get some sleep before we resume operations Sunday morning at 10AM. The contest ends on Sunday evening at 8PM.
We will gather at 11AM on Saturday to review our operating plans. So come on out and have some BIG FUN yet again. Join your fellow PCARS members and put your backside into an operations chair and work some AZ stations. Help K8BF have a great showing in this contest.
See you there.
