November Antenna SIG – CANCELLED

I got a message late this morning that a guy at the barbershop where I was getting a haircut last Saturday has some kind of flu symptoms. I was just able to confirm that a few minutes ago (patrons signs in with date and time). Everyone was masked and properly separated but he was in the chair next to me for about 15 minutes. In any case I am not taking any chances and therefore cancelling this month’s in person Antenna SIG. We will see how things are next month. Everyone stay safe and stay healthy.

Veterans Day Special Event – American Legion

American Legion Veterans Day Special Event
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, the 2020 Veterans Day Special Event operations will be hosted by K9TAL with assistance from stations around the country. Stations will operate from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. EST [1800Z to 2359Z], using the call signs N9V, N9V-2, N9V-3 and N9V-4. Stations will alternate Control Station responsibilities: 40m stations will operate from the American Legion’s National Headquarters in Indianapolis [N9V/K9TAL] and from Trappe, Md. [N9V-4/K3EMD]. 20m stations will operate from Dell Rapids, S.D. [N9V-2/KIØCW] and from Glenarden, Md. [N9V-3/N3TAL].
To accommodate almost all our members, there are several communications modes to choose from including HF, VHF, IRLP and EchoLink. To contact Special Event stations, tune to 7.225 MHz (+/- 5 KHz); or to 14.275 MHz (+/- 5 KHz); or to the 2m K9IP Repeater, 147.315, at Indianapolis; or to IRLP Node 9735; or to the EchoLink *CROSSRDS* Conference node. Any ham radio operators who contact the stations are eligible to receive a QSL card and a commemorative certificate to document their participation.
Let the The American Legion Amateur Radio Club (TALARC) board of officers be the first to wish you a happy Thanksgiving. Stay safe and protect yourself as we enter cold and flu season and the increased exposure to the COVID-19 virus. And stay alert for stray asteroids — it is still 2020, after all.

2021 PCARS Dues

Dear PCARS Members:
I want to remind you that your PCARS Membership renewal for 2021 is due on or before December 31st, 2020.  I know that this isn’t my first notice to you, but we want to make sure that everyone gets renewed before the December 31st deadline. PCARS does not “recycle membership numbers, so if your membership lapses and you need to reapply, you will be issued a new membership number!  Someday a very low PCARS membership number may become a ham radio badge of honor!
If you will go to the PCARS website ( www.portcars.org ) and click on the “MEMBERSHIP” tab in the blue bar at the top of the page, the membership page will have all the information you need to process your renewal, either online or mail-in. Either way, please, complete a new membership application, with all of your current information, so we can keep your record up to date.
Now that 2020 is just about behind us, your PCARS officers have been planning for 2021 based on the “new normal” that we will all be experiencing as we move forward. While we are hoping to be able to get together at events in person, we are planning to make our events friendly to both “in-person” and “virtual” attendance so you will always have the choice as to how you feel comfortable participating. Yes, it is going to be a challenge, but PCARS will be here to support your Amateur Radio interests. Club meetings and activities will help you keep up to date and engaged in all aspects of the hobby!
73,
Tom – WB8LCD
PCARS President
