PCARS DXers:
FO/M – Marquesas Islands
After departing Cocos Island (TI9), around March 1, the Magnet (see
yesterday’s issue) will then set sail for the Marquesas Islands
(FO/M). Once they find “a suitable spot to land” their equipment
AA7JV, George, and KN4EEI, Mike, along with some remote operators will
be QRV as FO/AA7JV from about March 18 to 25. This will include three
NCDXF sponsored RIB stations from either Nuku Hiva or Hiva Oa, both
are part of IOTA OC-027. While there they will concentrate “a strong
effort on 160 and 80 meters, as well as on 6 using FT8.”
In an effort to find “ways to make more DX happen, and happen to more
people” the farsighted Northern California DX Foundation (NCDXF)
supported all the development behind the RIB’s.
FO – French Polynesia
After completing their operation from the Marquesas Islands Magnet
will then be sailed to Tuamotu Archipelago, where they expect to be
active from approximately March 28 to April 5. This is part of IOTA
OC-066. Next they will sail to the Society Islands to operate from
various island between approximately April 10 and July 10. This will
include the Windward Islands (OC-046) and the Leeward Islands (OC-
067). More details of Magnet’s voyage westward across the Pacific will
be announced in the future.
I will continue to keep PCARS members informed of their progress. This is a big undertaking and I hope that we all will be able to work these stations as they cross the Pacific.
