PCARS MONTHLY MEETING – MONDAY 1/12/26 7:00PM

This Monday, January 12th, will be our first PCARS meeting of 2026. I hope you will come out and spend the evening with us – it’s always better live, and in person! The meeting starts at 7:00PM SHARP – (so get there early) at the Kent American Legion Post 496. Better yet, get there early so you can purchase your 50/50 tickets and rag-chew with the other PCARS members!
Solar Cycle 25 is heading in a downward direction now – but we’re still pretty near to the top. Plenty of time is left to work some exciting, world-wide DX. Our guest speaker for the January meeting will be the DX Mentor – Bill Salyers – AJ8B. Bill will be sharing “DXing Hints and Tips” which will help you get started working some of the GREAT DX that will be on the air this year and/or adding an ATNO (All Time New One) to your DX standing!
While it would be preferable to see you at the meeting, if you are unable to make it in person:

PCARS K8BF is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

IMPORTANT QST INFO

Greetings and Happy New Year!

First, I want to thank Jim, AC8NT, for his outstanding service to the club (genuflecting!). He has stepped down from the many positions he has held to pursue a couple things that he wants to do. Jim will still be an active member of the club, but not being the “Swiss Army Knife that he has been.

As a part of this, I will be managing the QST distribution. If you need to send a QST, the process is exactly the same. Send your article/item to qst@portcars.org and it will be distributed.

I will be checking for QST’s every evening and most mornings. If you have a special request, also email me at w8net@me.com or text me at (330) 619-9194.

I hope to have a smooth transition, but I have massive shoes to fill. Let me know if something is amiss.

73 de W8NET Gene

Desecheo DXpedition

ATTENTION: PCARS DXers –

Historic Dxpedition to Desecheo Island Announced

KP5/NP3VI — Desecheo DXpedition

Desecheo Island, Puerto Rico — In collaboration with the Vieques Island Amateur Radio Club (NP3VI) and the Manyana DX Foundation, we are proud to announce a landmark Dxpedition to Desecheo Island (KP5), currently ranked as the 14th most wanted DXCC entity worldwide.

Located approximately 13 miles off the west coast of Puerto Rico, Desecheo Island has not been activated since 2009. This operation represents the first Puerto Rican–led Dxpedition to Desecheo in 48 years, following the historic KP4AM/D activation in 1978.

To ensure continuous, global on-air presence, two self-sustained Remote Deployable Units (RDUs) provided by the Manyana DX Foundation will be deployed on the island. These stations will operate 24 hours a day for 30 consecutive days, utilizing state-of-the-art remote operating infrastructure from Remote Ham Radio (RHR).

The primary mission of this Dxpedition is to provide an All-Time New One (ATNO) to as many amateur radio operators worldwide as possible. Operators from Puerto Rico and international locations will participate to maximize coverage, band availability, and global accessibility.

Dxpedition highlights include:

  • 30 days of continuous operation
  • Livestreaming and real-time activity updates via Club Log

For the latest news, photos, operational updates, and activation schedules, please visit our official website desecheo2026.com and follow us on Facebook.
