On Thursday, January 5, 2006 I had the privilege to sit in the “Net Control Operator’s Chair” for the very first PCARS Thursday Night 2-meter Net. That net exceeded all expectations and I believe that the weekly net has been one of the hallmarks that makes PCARS such an outstanding Amateur Radio Club!
Now, as we finish up our first twenty-years as a club, I wanted to offer up a challenge to everyone to not only celebrate our 2oth anniversary, but also earn some recognition within the club. The participation of our members in our activities is first and foremost what sets us apart from other clubs and makes us such an outstanding organization! With that I give you the “20 for 20” PCARS Net awards:
The award period will run from July 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025. There will be a PCARS net every Thursday evening during the award period EXCEPT July 3rd, November 27th and December 25th. Therefore, there are 23 nets you can check into to qualify for the award. In addition, all 4 nets in June 2025 are considered “bonus” nets, and you can use up to 2 of them that you checked into to count for nets you miss during the award period.
There are 3 awards:
20th Anniversary 10 in a row
Awarded for any 10 in a row check-ins during the award period. Up to two
“Bonus” nets can be used for this award.

20 for 20
Awarded for 20 check-ins during the award period.
Up to two “Bonus” nets can be used for this award.
All 23 for
PCARS Special 20th
Is awarded for all 23 qualifying nets during the award period. Up to two
“Bonus” nets can be used for this award.

Earn any (or all) of these awards and the certificates will be presented at the January 12, 2026 PCARS meeting. You don’t even need to be a PCARS member to qualify for this award – just check into our weekly nets! I want to remind you that you can use Echo-Link to check into our nets from anywhere in the world – no excuses for being out of town!
The PCARS net meets every Thursday (except as noted above) at 8:00PM local time on the K8IV repeater. 146.895 mhz PL-118.8, or the K8BF-L Echolink node.
I’ll look forward to hearing you on the nets – and I hope to hear some of you early PCARS members who haven’t been on the nets lately!
