James F. Korenz, N8PXW

James F. Korenz, 76, passed away November 7, 2023.

Born in Akron, he was a resident of Uniontown. He graduated from the University of Akron and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber after over 30 years of service. He enjoyed HAM radio, 3D printing, geocaching, and biking.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Frank M. and Pauline Korenz. He is survived by his brother, Richard M. Korenz (Celeste); nieces, Calista Edinger and Kathrine Immel; great-nephews and niece, Liam Caldwell, Wade Robert Edinger, Estelle Mae Immel.

Family and friends will be received Friday, November 17th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hopkins Lawver UNIONTOWN Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Avenue), Uniontown, Ohio 44685. Funeral mass will be held Monday, November 20th at 10 a.m. at Nativity of The Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Rd. Akron, OH 44312.

Our next portable operations SIG is Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 PM. 

We’ve been talking about our next outing, which is planned for January 20^th, which is Winter Support Your Parks Weekend. Last year, Brandon hosted a ParkPedition to Lake Milton SP. For This time, we are returning to Wingfoot Lake. We’ll be at the Oak tree Shelter, and will have it partially walled off, and we’ll have heaters for your comfort. Come out Tuesday night, and learn more.

Center of Hope Fundraiser

This month is our big fundraiser for the Center of Hope. All proceeds from the 50/50 will go to the Center of Hope. We have a lot of great prizes this year. All tickets must be purchased in person.

PCARS is an ARRL Affiliated, Special Services Club. We are a group of Amateur Radio hobbyists located in Portage County, Ohio who believe that the whole point of being in the hobby of Amateur Radio is to have fun with it. Whether you are a new ham or an “old timer”, PCARS has something to offer you. The PCARS monthly meeting is held the second Monday of each month and the meetings start at 7:00 PM. The PCARS December meeting will be held at the Kent American Legion Post 496 on Monday, December 11, 2023. Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM sharp!

This is our annual Christmas Dinner meeting, open to all PCARS members and their families. The dinner will be catered by the Kent American Legion Post. The cost is $25 per plate (plus the PayPal processing fees). The entrees for this year’s dinner will be your choice between Chicken Breast or a 7 oz strip steak. Each meal also comes with parsley potatoes, candied carrots, and salad. Beverages will be available from the American Legion canteen. Dessert will also be provided. Don’t forget, dinner will be served at 7:00 PM!

After the dinner, there will be a short PCARS meeting and our PCARS Gift Exchange! Please bring a ten-dollar gift and mark it for a HAM or a NON-HAM. (Non-ham gifts should be gender-neutral.)

If you are bringing children, please bring a special gift for your own children, and mark the child’s name on the gift so we can make sure it gets to him or her.
