FYAO: FREEZE YOUR ACORNS OFF 2/21/26 @9:00AM

Hey PCARS Members:

This coming weekend (Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026) is our annual QRP event we have termed, Freeze Your Acorns Off. If the temps drop, then this will truly be a day that lives up to the name. I’m hoping that many of you are planning your operations and I hope that I will see many individuals and/or teams come out to participate.

We will be meeting, as in years past, at the Fred Fuller Park, 497 Middlebury Rd, Kent, OH. in the Roy Smith shelter. Set up is at 9AM and the event starts at 10AM and runs until 3PM. Plan on attending, even if all you do is come out to cheer on your fellow PCARS members. I will remind you again closer to the date.

DESECHEO DXPEDITION2026 UPDATE

Desecheo DXpedition 2026 Update
Date/Time: February 10, 2026 23:00 UTC
-DXPEDITION EXTENDED
-ATNO DAY
DXPEDITION EXTENDED:
We are pleased to announce an extension of the Desecheo DXpedition 2026 until Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The original recovery date was Thursday, February 12, however deteriorating sea conditions have required us to delay equipment recovery until March 3.
As a result, the DXpedition will remain on the air longer, providing additional opportunities for operators to work Desecheo Island for an All Time New One (ATNO), which remains our primary focus. During the extension period, we will continue to operate on the bands and modes that have proven most effective and productive.
—————
ATNO DAY:
We will be conducting an All Time New One Day for twelve hours, beginning Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 12:00 UTC and ending Monday, February 16, 2026 at 00:00 UTC. During this period, we will be focused on FT8 from 12:00–14:00 UTC, after which we will focus on SSB. Operation will be in the U.S. General portion of the bands.
We respectfully ask operators who do not need KP5 Desecheo Island for an ATNO to please refrain from calling us during this period. This will help maximize opportunities for those who still need this rare entity in their log.
—————
STATISTICS:
Current statistics show 66,000+ QSOs, 14,771 unique callsigns, and 3,674 ATNOs.
Breakdown by continent:
NA 54.4%
EU 34.5%
AS 6.4%
SA 3.2%
OC 0.9%
AF 0.6%
—————
Please continue to monitor the Weekly Mode Schedule and livestream, as updates may occur based on real-time conditions.
The Desecheo DXpedition 2026 Team sincerely thanks the amateur radio community worldwide for its continued interest and support of this first-ever, fully solar-powered rare-entity DXpedition.
If you are enjoying this operation and would like to support future DXpeditions and the continued development of more effective Remote Deployment Units, donations may be made to the Manyana DX Foundation at:

Minnesota and British Columbia QSO Parties this Sat. 2/7

PCARS Contesters:

UPDATE
Wanted to let all of you know that the conflict of VE Session and Contesting has been resolved. So we are back saying that those who will be participating in the two State QSO Parties can show up about an hour before they start.

On Feb. 7-8 we will be putting K8BF on the air from our World Famous HQ in two state QOS Parties. Yes, that’s this coming weekend.

The first is the Minnesota QSO Party that is held on Sat., Feb. 7th from 1400 UTC (9AM local) until 2359 UTC (7PM local). In other words, it’s a one day contest. We have done very well in this event, finishing first for a few years.

The second is the British Columbia QSO Party, that starts on Sat., Feb 7th at 1600 UTC (11AM local) and goes until 0359 UTC (11PM local). Then it pauses so that we can get a good night’s sleep and picks up on Sunday, Feb.8 at 1600 UTC (11AM local) and continues until 2359 UTC (7PM local). Again, we have done well in this event also.

So I am encouraging all members who love, like, tolerate state QSO Parties to join us during these two events. Since attendance is sporadic throughout the days, it is impossible to set up any type of operating schedule. So we will attempt, to the best of our ability, to accomodate all who show up to operate.

I look forward to seeing many members there.

Chuck, W8PT
